We want you to spend time with your families over Christmas but on the off chance that you may be a little bored and desperately want to do some maths here you go….

Log in to ‘MathsWatch’ using your log in pack and have a go at the allocated activity called ‘Recapping Fractions’.

Take some time to explore the new site as well.

We can’t wait to see your festive reading pictures, I know I am ridiculously excited about getting lost in a good book this Christmas. I think I may go for one by my favourite author Dan Brown.

MERRY CHRISTMAS!

Now we have witnessed with our very eyes how brilliantly you have mastered bus stop, we want to push you that step further!

We know what happens when we have a remainder….we can show this as a decimal but there are other ways of showing it…..

See the below videos to explore how we can use the bus stop to solve division problems with remainders.

If you want to build confidence try this:

Word problems with remainders

If you want to challenge yourself, try this:

These will also be allocated on your abacus accounts if you can’t access on here.

Are you ready for division?!

Thank you so much for your enthusiasm for our flipped learning so far. It is making a real difference in helping us push forward with your learning!

Next week we will be looking at division. The video below will help you practise your short division/bus stop method when dividing by single digit numbers e.g 665 ÷ 7

Alongside this we will be consolidating our use of fact boxes when dividing by 2 digit numbers e.g  1424 ÷ 16

You could teach someone at home this method once we have looked at it in class.

Meanwhile have a go at the questions below for short division after watching the video. Remember you can pause this and have a go yourself as many times as you need.

If you are struggling to access this link, log in with your details to your abacus active learn and the video will be allocated to you on there.

Enjoy!

If you feel you would like some time to practise and consolidate, have a go at watching this one:

https://www.activelearnprimary.co.uk/resource/240443

If you want a chance to apply your knowledge to decimals, try this:

Then use this knowledge to have a go at some of the questions in your homework books….

You can choose from green/amber/red

Flipped Learning – Year 5 Parent Homework

This week in Year 5 we have been learning mental and written methods of subtraction.

Can you learn one of our written methods called decomposition?

In this video you will see they call it the compact written method, however we call it decomposition. You also may be familiar with the term ‘borrowing’ when taking from a different column, however again it is important we refer to this as ‘exchange’.

Once you have practised, see if you can complete a few calculations below.

In class we use activities or questions set as Green, Amber and Red for the children to select their own challenge level. The blue bag is your child’s Flipped Learning bag. It will be a good place to store ear phones and we will send home resources that will support the video when needed.
